The 20th CBRNE Command, which houses the bulk of the Army’s specialized EOD and CBRN units, plays a critical role in countering global threats. From this base in northeastern Maryland, teams are dispatched to operations worldwide. Richmond served both in the command’s future operations unit and as the head of Weapons of Mass Destruction Coordination Team 1, a role that involved regular deployments to Europe for planning and coordinating counter-WMD strategies with U.S. Army Europe-Africa.

His responsibilities included participating in high-level military exercises such as Freedom Shield, Austere Challenge, and Global Defender. He was also instrumental in organizing EOD Day on Capitol Hill, allowing technicians to connect with lawmakers about their mission. Richmond’s earlier service included leadership at the Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal School in Florida, where he trained future joint-service EOD technicians.

Before his Army career, Richmond served in the Marine Corps as a logistics specialist and deployed to Iraq. He later joined the Montana National Guard and earned his Army commission through the University of Montana’s ROTC program. Over the course of his career, he served in 25 countries, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, and assignments ranging from Djibouti to Germany.

The retirement ceremony was hosted by Col. Phillip P. Murrell, deputy commander of the 20th CBRNE Command, with other senior command officials in attendance. Richmond, who is originally from Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Lolo, Montana, now plans to settle with his family in California.
