Grothe’s 2024 performance included 18 fire and explosive investigations and 60 life safety inspections. His work led to three arrests and two criminal convictions. A key investigation exposed an unlicensed operator who had been conducting unauthorized fireworks displays for years. While the case was not prosecuted, the investigation succeeded in shutting down the illegal activity and emphasized the importance of using licensed professionals, helping to protect communities from potential hazards.
In addition to fieldwork, Grothe advanced his credentials by completing 275 hours of specialized training. He earned the Certified Fire Investigator designation from the International Association of Fire Investigators, a credential that signifies global recognition in the fire investigation field. He also became certified as an Instructor I through the Maryland Police Training Commission, which enabled him to join the Office of the State Fire Marshal Firearms Team.
