A fatal traffic collision in Lewistown, Maryland, claimed the life of a Thurmont man and left another individual seriously injured on Thursday morning. Authorities responded to the scene at the intersection of Old Frederick Road and Devilbiss Bridge Road shortly after 9:00 a.m., where a Toyota Highlander and a Mack dump truck were involved in the crash.

According to a preliminary investigation conducted by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit, the incident occurred when a 2015 Toyota Highlander, operated by 78-year-old Willie Hensley Jr. of Thurmont, entered the intersection while attempting to turn south onto Old Frederick Road from Devilbiss Bridge Road. The Highlander collided with a northbound 1999 Mack dump truck.

Emergency personnel from Frederick County Fire and Rescue pronounced Hensley deceased at the scene. A passenger traveling in the Highlander suffered serious injuries and was transported via Maryland State Police helicopter to a trauma center, where they remain in stable condition. The driver of the dump truck was assessed at the location but declined medical treatment.

Hensley’s body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for further examination. The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash and has requested that anyone with information contact Sgt. Rector of the Traffic Unit at 301-600-6490.
