Seventeen individuals were rescued from life-threatening conditions in Nogales, Arizona, after U.S. Border Patrol agents uncovered a human smuggling operation. The discovery was made last Wednesday when authorities found several individuals crammed inside a recreational vehicle and a small sedan under sweltering summer conditions. Those rescued, including a minor, are citizens of Mexico and were found in dangerously confined spaces with poor ventilation and no access to water.

The RV was parked on a property, while the sedan was stopped during a traffic enforcement action. As temperatures inside the vehicles soared, the lack of space and ventilation created a severe risk of heat-related illness. One person attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. All individuals have been safely taken into custody and are undergoing processing.

The driver of the sedan, identified as a United States citizen, has been charged with human smuggling. Authorities emphasized the severe risks associated with such smuggling tactics, particularly as summer heat intensifies, making the cramped and unventilated conditions even more hazardous.
