Two 17-year-olds from New Mexico were arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents near Palominas, Arizona, on March 1 for allegedly smuggling three Mexican nationals into the United States. The teens were stopped in a black Dodge Ram pickup after surveillance operators observed suspicious activity in a known smuggling area. During the inspection, agents found three men attempting to hide in the vehicle’s backseat.

The male driver and female passenger, both U.S. citizens, were taken to the Brian A. Terry Station. The truck was seized as part of the investigation. The three Mexican nationals, who had all been previously deported, were arrested and will undergo processing for reinstatement of their prior removal orders. They will also serve as material witnesses in the human smuggling case against the driver. The female passenger will not face prosecution at this time.
