The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts is preparing for its annual Amazing Tablescapes fundraiser, set to captivate visitors with vibrant, Frida Kahlo-inspired designs. Scheduled from June 10 to June 13, the event invites community members to craft creative table settings, with attendees voting for their favorite. This year’s showcase aligns with the museum’s upcoming exhibition, Frida Kahlo: Picturing an Icon, bringing the Mexican artist’s cultural legacy to life in the museum’s atrium.

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.
If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.
Will you be one of the 5%?

The Tablescapes exhibit, open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature various designs influenced by Kahlo’s art and heritage. Among the highlights is “A Stroll Through Casa Azul” by Ashley Notabartolo and Lauren Doyle Vaccari, a recreation of the iconic home Kahlo shared with Diego Rivera. Visitors can expect to see replicas of the artist’s gardens, hand-sewn clothing, and personal artifacts, complete with a selfie station to capture the experience.
Another design, “Mexican Street Carnival in Coyoacán” by Christine Price-Abelow and Dana Swords, will transport guests to the vibrant neighborhood where Kahlo spent much of her life. This setting evokes the spirit of traditional Mexican street festivals, showcasing bold fabrics, floral arrangements, papel picado banners, and festive elements like sugar skulls and tropical fruits.

While other outlets focus on getting quotes from politicians who don't even live in our congressional district, we're focused on providing the hard-hitting truths and facts without political spin. We don't lock our news behind a paywall, will you help us keep it that way? If you're tired of news sweetened with confirmation bias, consider becoming a monthly supporter. But if you're not, that's fine too—we're confident in our mission and will be here if you decide you're ready for the truth. Just $5/month helps fund our local reporting, live election night coverage, and more.

Completing the thematic array is “The Heart of Frida” by Victoria Beyer and Kandyce Mizell Douglas. This table interprets the symbolic use of hearts in Kahlo’s paintings, such as Memory, The Heart and The Two Fridas, representing the artist’s personal struggles and enduring influence.
The fundraiser will culminate on June 13 with a gala dinner set amid the Tablescapes designs, featuring Latin American cuisine, desserts, and live music to celebrate the opening of the Frida Kahlo: Picturing an Icon exhibition. Tickets for the gala are available online, and sponsorship opportunities remain open.
