The Step2 Company has issued a recall of its popular My First Snowman toy, citing a risk of serious injury or death due to a choking hazard. Approximately 30,800 units sold in the United States, along with an additional 692 units sold in Canada, are affected. The recall comes after multiple reports of the toy’s top hat breaking into small pieces, potentially posing a danger to young children.

The recalled product, a 17-inch white snowman with removable facial features, purple mittens, and a battery-powered black and red top hat, was available for purchase online through retailers such as Step2.com, Amazon, Walmart, and Wayfair between March 2024 and December 2024. The hazard specifically involves the top hat, which can fracture into smaller pieces. The recall is limited to toys manufactured in December 2023 and April 2024, identifiable by a date code located near the battery compartment on the bottom of the hat.
To date, the company has received 47 reports of the hat’s brim breaking, though no injuries have been reported. As a precaution, Step2 advises consumers to stop using the toy immediately, remove the top hat, and keep it out of reach of children. Consumers can contact Step2 for guidance on properly disposing of the faulty hat and receiving a free replacement. Step2 is reaching out to all known purchasers to ensure swift action.
