The easement, acquired through the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Program, ensures the land’s continued agricultural use and contributes to a broader conservation initiative that now encompasses more than 42,600 acres of protected farmland across the county. The farm, known for its scenic views and historical value, is part of an active grain production operation and reflects the region’s rural heritage.
This marks the fifth easement finalized in the Fiscal Year 2024 cycle, demonstrating the ongoing momentum behind Washington County’s preservation agenda. Nearly 17,000 acres—about 39 percent of the county’s permanently preserved land—have been secured through MALPP, the county’s most utilized preservation program. Managed locally by the Department of Planning & Zoning’s Land Preservation Office, MALPP is funded and administered through the Maryland Department of Agriculture.
