The individual, identified as 25-year-old U.S. citizen Mark Anthony Renteria of San Benito, Texas, was driving a 2016 GMC when he presented himself at the port of entry on April 18. CBP officers regularly rely on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), a centralized database that helps law enforcement agencies share data on fugitives and other criminal activities. Arrests at border crossings often stem from information within this system, with previous apprehensions involving a wide spectrum of crimes including homicide, narcotics trafficking, and sexual abuse. Individuals facing charges remain presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
