Authorities are continuing to examine the cause of a fatal fire in Cecil County that led to the discovery of human remains. The incident occurred late Wednesday night in Earleville and drew a significant response from local fire departments.
On April 16, around 10:10 p.m., crews from the Cecilton Volunteer Fire Company, along with nearby departments, responded to a reported structure fire at 2 Kent Road. When firefighters arrived, they found a mobile home fully involved. Approximately thirty firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control, succeeding within 30 minutes. During the suppression efforts, human remains were discovered inside the structure. The remains have since been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for identification and to determine the cause of death.
Fire investigators with the Office of the State Fire Marshal have concluded that the fire originated inside the mobile home, but the specific cause is still under investigation. Authorities have also noted that it is not yet known whether smoke alarms were installed in the residence. The estimated damage to the home and its contents is $150,000.
