More than 220,000 Segway Ninebot Max G30P and Max G30LP KickScooters have been recalled following reports that a faulty folding mechanism could cause the handlebars or stem to collapse during use. The defect poses a serious fall hazard and has already led to dozens of reported injuries.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on March 20, 2025, affecting all units of the Max G30P and Max G30LP models. These scooters were sold between January 2020 and February 2025 through major national retailers including Best Buy, Costco, Walmart, Target, and Sam’s Club, as well as online through Segway.com and Amazon.com. The scooters retailed for between $600 and $1,000.
The recall follows 68 reports of the folding mechanism failing during operation. Of these, 20 incidents resulted in injuries, ranging from abrasions and bruises to lacerations and broken bones. The issue arises when the folding mechanism does not securely lock, allowing the handlebars or stem to fold unexpectedly while the scooter is in motion.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled scooters immediately. Segway is offering a free maintenance kit that includes tools and instructions to assess and tighten the folding mechanism. Owners can contact Segway via phone, email, or through the company’s recall website to confirm if their unit is affected and to request the repair kit.
The recalled G30P models are black with yellow accents, while the G30LP models are gray with yellow accents. Both models display the “ninebot” brand on the foot platform and handlebar top, with model numbers found on a label along the foot deck. Segway Inc., based in Los Angeles, California, imported the scooters, which were manufactured in China and Malaysia.
