A line of retractable safety gates sold exclusively on Amazon.com has been recalled due to a serious entrapment hazard that could result in injury or death to children. The gates, sold by HabiLife Direct under model number SG021, fail to meet federal safety regulations because a child’s torso can fit through the opening between the gate and the floor, creating a risk of entrapment. Approximately 880 units are affected by the recall.

The recalled gates were marketed for use with both babies and pets and were available in white, gray, and black. Measuring about 34 inches high with an adjustable width of up to 55 inches, the gates feature an aluminum frame and a mesh barrier. “Retractable Safety Gate” and the model number SG021 are printed on a white label inside the frame, near the gate’s handles. These products were available for purchase on Amazon between September 2024 and January 2025, with prices ranging from $35 to $45.
Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled gates immediately and contact HabiLife Direct for a full refund. As part of the recall process, consumers must cut the mesh of the gates and dispose of them, then submit a photo of the destroyed product to the company via email. Both HabiLife Direct and Amazon are reaching out to known purchasers regarding the recall.
