CBP officers flagged the shipments as potentially counterfeit and forwarded them to the agency’s trade experts for verification. After consultation with trademark holders, the items were confirmed to be counterfeit and were seized under CBP’s regulatory authority. Officials stress that counterfeit products not only undermine legitimate businesses but also pose health and safety risks to consumers. Knockoff cosmetics are often manufactured using substandard materials and may contain hazardous substances that could lead to skin conditions or other serious health issues.

CBP continues to enforce intellectual property rights aggressively, with more than 32,000 seizures recorded in fiscal year 2024, amounting to an estimated $5.4 billion in value. The agency urges consumers to purchase beauty and personal care products from reputable retailers to avoid potential health risks. Those with information about counterfeit goods being imported into the U.S. are encouraged to report it through CBP’s anonymous tip line.
