A Croydon, Pennsylvania couple has been charged with felony child endangerment after allegedly failing to provide necessary medical care and adequate nutrition for their premature newborn twins. Authorities say the parents missed multiple medical appointments and provided insufficient feeding, resulting in severe malnutrition for both infants. The babies, who were born at 32 weeks, were hospitalized in December after appearing dangerously underweight.

Courtney Soyka, 32, and Marcus Maddela, 45, both of Coventry Avenue in Bristol Township, were each charged with two counts of felony child endangerment and conspiracy. The couple was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Terrance Hughes and placed in Bucks County Correctional Facility under a $500,000 bail, with 10 percent required for release. The investigation began in December 2024 when Bristol Township police received a referral from Bucks County Children and Youth regarding the twins’ well-being. The infants had been discharged from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in October but had missed four scheduled weight-check appointments before returning to the hospital on December 11 in an alarmingly malnourished state.
Upon readmission to the hospital, both infants were measured under the first percentile for their age. One twin had gained just over a pound since birth, reaching 5.78 pounds, while the other weighed 5.04 pounds—both significantly underweight for their developmental stage. The twins were transferred to St. Christopher’s Hospital in Philadelphia, where doctors noted that they gained weight rapidly with routine formula feeding. Medical professionals determined that the lack of proper nutrition at home, rather than an underlying medical condition, was the primary cause of their poor growth.

Doctors stated that the infants’ condition could have been avoided had they received proper care, including their scheduled medical checkups. The case was investigated by Bristol Township Police Detective John Jennings and is assigned for prosecution to Deputy District Attorney Brittney M. Kern. Authorities stress that criminal charges remain allegations until proven in court, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
