We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.
If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

AC&T, a business offering a range of services in the Tri-State area—including heating fuel, propane, convenience stores, and transport services—has grown significantly under Fulton’s leadership. Beyond his business achievements, Fulton has been a committed community supporter, backing organizations such as Saint James School, the United Way of Washington County, The Maryland Theatre, and the Maryland Symphony Orchestra. His philanthropic efforts have extended to education, healthcare, and local nonprofits, with his family playing an active role in solving community challenges.
Fulton’s commitment to education and civic engagement is reflected in several key contributions. He previously served on the board of trustees at Saint James School, which named its Barbara J. Fulton Academic Building in honor of his late wife. The AC&T Show Arena at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center and the AC&T Student Center at Hagerstown Community College also stand as testaments to the family’s support of educational initiatives.

Raised in Hagerstown, Fulton developed a strong work ethic early in life. After losing his father at a young age, he was brought up by his mother, who instilled in him a dedication to hard work. He got his first truck at age 15 and later joined AC&T in 1956, eventually becoming the sole owner in 1986. While building the business, Fulton also raised a family and maintained a deep connection to agriculture, working alongside his late wife Barbara, and later, his second wife, Janet Stiles.
Today, Fulton’s three sons continue to manage AC&T, ensuring the business remains innovative and supportive of its employees. The company provides strong benefits and educational scholarships for employees’ families, reflecting the values instilled by its founder. The Chamber of Washington County established the Legacy Award to recognize individuals who have made a lasting impact through their professional and community contributions.
Fulton will receive the award at the Business Awards event, scheduled for February 26, 2025, at The Maryland Theatre. The event will also honor finalists in eight other business categories. More information and ticket details can be found at Hagerstown.org.
