U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has joined the nationwide observance of National Human Trafficking Prevention Month by participating in Wear Blue Day on January 11. The agency’s efforts span across multiple sectors, including U.S. Border Patrol, Air and Marine Operations, and the Office of Trade, aiming to prevent trafficking before it begins. CBP’s frontline personnel, numbering nearly 42,000, work tirelessly along 7,000 miles of land borders and at more than 320 ports of entry to identify potential victims and assist them by connecting them with support services. Additionally, the agency collaborates with other departments, such as Homeland Security and Transportation, through programs like the Blue Lightning Initiative, which trains airline personnel to detect and report trafficking activities.

CBP has also made strides in addressing forced labor practices worldwide. The agency’s Office of Trade enforces measures that block imports linked to forced labor. Since the implementation of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act in 2022, nearly 5,000 shipments suspected of involving forced labor have been intercepted. The recent expansion of the UFLPA Entity List by the Department of Homeland Security further strengthens these efforts, ensuring compliance and protecting global workers’ rights.
