CBP officers at San Diego Field Office locations intercepted approximately 8,915 pounds of narcotics—including methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl—valued at over $19.9 million on the street. Notable seizures included 25 pounds of white fentanyl powder and 2.5 pounds of fentanyl pills hidden in a minivan at Otay Mesa, 265 pounds of meth in a sedan at Calexico West, and 766 pounds of meth concealed in the roof of a tractor-trailer at the Tecate Cargo Facility. These interceptions are part of a broader effort to curb the flow of dangerous substances into local communities.
CBP also uncovered more than $100,000 in undeclared U.S. and foreign currency across multiple outbound and inbound inspections. Illicit cash flows are often used to fund organized crime and money laundering operations. In one incident at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, officers seized tens of thousands of Mexican Pesos suspected to be linked to criminal activity.

In addition to drugs and money, CBP disrupted several weapons trafficking attempts. Officers confiscated five firearms, including a Glock 26 handgun with nearly 250 rounds of ammunition and multiple magazines, some of which were found on a traveler enrolled in the Trusted Traveler program. These discoveries underscore ongoing threats from illegal arms crossing into the U.S. and the importance of preventing weapons from fueling violence.
CBP’s enforcement also extended to wildlife smuggling and environmental protection. Officers intercepted 14 toucans hidden inside a vehicle’s dashboard and fined a traveler $5,000 for attempting to bring in over 145 pounds of undeclared sea cucumbers. These actions support federal efforts to combat illegal wildlife trade and protect endangered species from exploitation.
San Diego area residents may see continued heightened enforcement at ports of entry and cargo facilities as CBP targets criminal networks with broad impacts on public safety, economic stability, and environmental health.
