Maryland State Police are conducting an investigation into a homicide in St. Mary’s County after a 36-year-old woman was fatally shot on Friday. Authorities have arrested the victim’s ex-husband, who is facing multiple charges related to the incident.

Troopers responded to the 21000 block of Liberty Street in Lexington Park at approximately 11:10 a.m. on January 3, 2025, after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Chaquanda Latise Odom of California, Maryland, with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.
According to police, the suspect, 38-year-old Jayson David Pressley of Lexington Park, surrendered to authorities at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center later that day. Pressley has been charged with first- and second-degree murder and is being held without bond as the case proceeds.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, supported by several divisions within the state police as well as local law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
