Maryland State Police are conducting an investigation into a homicide in St. Mary’s County after a 36-year-old woman was fatally shot on Friday. Authorities have arrested the victim’s ex-husband, who is facing multiple charges related to the incident.

Troopers responded to the 21000 block of Liberty Street in Lexington Park at approximately 11:10 a.m. on January 3, 2025, after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Chaquanda Latise Odom of California, Maryland, with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.

According to police, the suspect, 38-year-old Jayson David Pressley of Lexington Park, surrendered to authorities at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center later that day. Pressley has been charged with first- and second-degree murder and is being held without bond as the case proceeds.
