According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Terry Lee Sines Jr. was driving southbound on Hopewell Road when he stopped in the middle of the roadway to inspect an animal that had been struck in the travel lane. While Sines was standing in the northbound lane, a Chevy Malibu approached from the northbound direction. The driver initially did not see Sines but attempted to swerve upon noticing him. Despite the effort, Sines was struck by the vehicle’s driver-side mirror.
Sines was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators closed the roadway until 11:00 PM while the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team conducted their investigation. No additional details have been released regarding the incident.
