CUMBERLAND, MD News (11/29/2024) – Authorities in Allegany County are seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect responsible for an arson at a Cumberland tire shop. Early Saturday morning on November 23, 2024, an individual set fire to D&K Tires, located at 638 Greene Street, causing approximately $50,000 in damages.

The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m., when surveillance footage captured the suspect approaching the shop from the direction of a nearby Dollar General. The individual ignited a flammable device atop a window air conditioning unit and then walked away down Greene Street. Shortly thereafter, a passerby discovered the fire at 4:42 a.m., prompting a response from the Cumberland Fire Department and neighboring departments.
Fire crews quickly contained the blaze to an office area, but the business suffered extensive smoke, soot, and water damage throughout the building. No injuries were reported.

Investigators described the suspect as a white male, approximately 5’8″ with a large build. The individual was seen wearing loose-fitting pants, possibly sweatpants, and a flannel shirt. He appeared to walk unevenly or with a limp, which may aid in identifying him.
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Western Regional Office at 301-766-3888 or 301-729-5540.
The investigation is being conducted by the Cumberland Fire Department and the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The agency encourages residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to help prevent further incidents.
