HAGERSTOWN, MD News (11/12/2024) – The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will make a stop in Hagerstown, Maryland, as part of its 2024 cross-country journey from Alaska to Washington, D.C. Each year, a different national forest donates a tree to be displayed on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. This year’s tree, an 80-foot Sitka spruce from Alaska’s Tongass National Forest, will arrive in downtown Hagerstown on November 19, offering residents a chance to participate in holiday celebrations before the tree reaches its final destination on November 22.

The Hagerstown event will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on South Potomac Street. Highlights will include a parade led by the South Hagerstown High School marching band and Santa Claus, who will arrive on a motorcycle. Attendees can enjoy hot cocoa served by staff from The Maryland Theatre, holiday crafts with Girls Inc., coloring pages from Hagerstown Parks and Recreation, and carols sung by students from Barbara Ingram School for the Arts. Miss Maryland Bridget O’Brien will host the event, with remarks from public officials scheduled for 6 p.m. Verstandig Media’s 104.7 WAYZ will also broadcast live from the event.
The tree’s journey is supported by presenting sponsor 84 Lumber and numerous partners, including the Society of American Foresters, Kenworth Truck Company, and Alaska Airlines, among others. This initiative allows communities across the country to connect with the tradition and spirit of the Capitol Christmas Tree.

The event in Hagerstown is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to follow local health guidelines and be mindful of road safety around the large transport truck as it makes its way through the city.
