HAGERSTOWN, MD News (11/12/2024) – The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will make a stop in Hagerstown, Maryland, as part of its 2024 cross-country journey from Alaska to Washington, D.C. Each year, a different national forest donates a tree to be displayed on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. This year’s tree, an 80-foot Sitka spruce from Alaska’s Tongass National Forest, will arrive in downtown Hagerstown on November 19, offering residents a chance to participate in holiday celebrations before the tree reaches its final destination on November 22.

We need your help to stay paywall free

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.

If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

Will you be one of the 5%?

The Hagerstown event will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on South Potomac Street. Highlights will include a parade led by the South Hagerstown High School marching band and Santa Claus, who will arrive on a motorcycle. Attendees can enjoy hot cocoa served by staff from The Maryland Theatre, holiday crafts with Girls Inc., coloring pages from Hagerstown Parks and Recreation, and carols sung by students from Barbara Ingram School for the Arts. Miss Maryland Bridget O’Brien will host the event, with remarks from public officials scheduled for 6 p.m. Verstandig Media’s 104.7 WAYZ will also broadcast live from the event.

The tree’s journey is supported by presenting sponsor 84 Lumber and numerous partners, including the Society of American Foresters, Kenworth Truck Company, and Alaska Airlines, among others. This initiative allows communities across the country to connect with the tradition and spirit of the Capitol Christmas Tree.
