We need your help to stay paywall free

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.

If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

Will you be one of the 5%?

This initiative marks the twelfth consecutive year that Hagerstown Professional Firefighters have collaborated with Operation Warm to address the needs of underserved students in Hagerstown’s Title 1 schools. Since its inception, the program has delivered over 2,000 coats, thanks to the efforts of the Hagerstown Professional Firefighters Charitable Foundation and contributions from the community.

“Operation Warm has always been about more than a coat. Providing a new coat to underprivileged students provides not just warmth and protection from the elements, but also increased confidence and self-esteem thus enhancing the physical and emotional well-being of the student,” said Allen Carpenter, a Hagerstown Professional Firefighter and Operation Warm program manager. “This is the first time the program has been able to simultaneously serve 2 schools, which includes a school not within Hagerstown’s corporate boundaries, and would not be possible without the help of the Title 1 Family Liaison from both schools. This program is 100% funded by the Hagerstown Professional Firefighters Charitable Foundation and is just one of the many ways Hagerstown’s professional firefighters continue to be strong community focused leaders.”

This year’s distribution includes, for the first time, Lincolnshire Elementary students—expanding the reach of the program beyond the city’s corporate boundaries. The initiative was made possible through collaboration with Title 1 Family Liaisons from both schools, ensuring that more students could benefit from the support. The program operates solely through charitable funding and serves as one of many ways the firefighters contribute to the welfare of local communities.

“The City of Hagerstown and the Hagerstown Fire Department are proud to support the efforts of the Hagerstown Professional Firefighters Local 1605 during their 12th annual winter coat distribution – Operation Warm,” said Hagerstown Fire Department Fire Chief John DiBacco. “We will again provide support alongside our members at the Jonathan Hager Elementary School on November 4, 2024. I offer my deepest appreciation and gratitude to the members of Local 1605 for their altruistic care for our community’s most needful children.”

The Hagerstown Fire Department is also participating in the event, with Fire Chief John DiBacco extending appreciation for the firefighters’ community commitment and emphasizing the program’s positive impact on local families.
