We need your help to stay paywall free

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.

So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

Will you be one of the 5%?

“We want to thank our community for sharing our social media post, the local media for getting the story out, and the individuals who sent us tips,” the department said in a statement. “A tipster alerted us this morning to Parada’s location, and a team of officers moved in to make the arrest.”

Parada was transported to police headquarters for questioning and will later be transferred to the detention center for processing. A photo taken immediately after his arrest has been provided, though an official booking photo will not be available until after processing is complete.

Maryland court records show that a Luis Fernando Parada of the same age was charged with Second-Degree Assault in 2016, a misdemeanor under Maryland law. The case, handled by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, resulted in Parada entering a guilty plea on May 23, 2017. He was sentenced to only three days in jail. At the time, Parada was living on Ross Street in Hagerstown.

The police have also asked the public to come forward with any additional information or if they believe they may be victims of Parada. “While we are not aware of any other verified criminal events or sexual assaults, out of an abundance of caution, we are asking the public to contact Detective Vogel at dvogel@hagerstownpd.org if they have relevant information,” the department said.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further updates will be provided as necessary. The department emphasized its gratitude for the community’s involvement in helping to bring the suspect into custody.
