We need your help to stay paywall free

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. The event was highlighted by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, accompanied by the lively sounds of the Mariachi band Los Mensajeros del Sur, led by Humberto Guzman.

The journey to Hagerstown for Takito owners Raul Valdivia Jr. and Sr. has been one of resilience and community support. After an arson destroyed their original location in Gaithersburg a year ago, they received encouragement from their Frederick restaurant patrons to expand to Hagerstown. The Valdivias were determined to keep their Gaithersburg staff employed and saw this new location as an opportunity to start fresh.

“You know how they say all roads lead to Rome? Well, for us, all roads led to the Hub City,” said Raul Valdivia Jr. during the opening event. “Our Frederick customers had been asking us to open in Hagerstown for at least the last two years. After the Gaithersburg arson event, Hagerstown seemed like the right place for us to get a fresh start.”

Takito’s menu offers a mix of traditional and unique options, catering to a diverse clientele. In addition to classic Mexican tacos, the Hagerstown location introduces new items like shrimp tacos and vegan alternatives, including vegan chorizo and al pastor tacos.

Valdivia Jr. emphasized that Takito is about “selling a culture over a product.” He added, “When people taste the authentic flavors of our dishes, it takes you somewhere. That’s the impact of the authentic flavors of Mexico.”
