The fire was discovered by a neighbor, who promptly notified authorities. Firefighters from the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call, with a total of 25 firefighters arriving on the scene. They were able to bring the blaze under control within 10 minutes of arrival. Despite the quick response, one firefighter sustained minor injuries when the roof of the house collapsed. The injured firefighter was transported to Garrett Regional Medical Center for treatment and is expected to recover.
Preliminary reports indicate that the fire originated on the front porch of the home. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation by local authorities. Notably, while smoke alarms were present in the home, they failed to activate during the incident. The house did not have a sprinkler system installed.
