City officials initially estimated the repair process would take 12 to 24 hours. By 7:30 am Sunday, the repairs were completed, though the city has advised that it may take several days for full water pressure to return across the entire system. As water tanks slowly replenish, certain areas are expected to experience intermittent outages and low pressure.

The main water line, which feeds into multiple key areas of the city including Park Circle, affected water service from Governor Lane Boulevard to Bower Avenue. Residents in the impacted areas were urged to conserve water while the repair efforts were ongoing to prioritize essential services.

In response to the outage, the Washington County Office of Emergency Management opened a bottled water distribution site at the Halfway Fire Department for affected residents in the Van Lear and Tammany Manor neighborhoods. The office also recommended water conservation practices for residents and provided updates through local communication channels.

No boil advisory was issued following the repair, though residents were instructed to allow water to run until it cleared if cloudiness was present.

City officials expressed appreciation for the public’s cooperation and patience during the emergency repair efforts, which involved coordinated responses from the water department and local emergency services. For any ongoing concerns or service issues, customers were advised to contact the City of Hagerstown Water Department at 301-739-8577, extensions 680 and 690.

While the water main break caused temporary disruptions to local traffic and daily activities, the swift repair and restoration efforts have returned the system to stability. Further updates will be provided as the system recovers fully over the next several days.
