BIG POOL, MD News (9/10/2024) – Maryland State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred on Tuesday morning on Interstate 70 in Washington County. The crash left four individuals injured, including two children, who were transported to hospitals for treatment.

The incident took place shortly before 7:30 a.m. when troopers from the Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack responded to a report of a crash near mile marker 11 on eastbound I-70. According to a preliminary investigation, the vehicle involved, a Mazda operated by Yelson Aguilar, 19, of Baltimore, Maryland, veered off the road and overturned in the median. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
Aguilar was transported by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown for treatment of his injuries. A passenger in the vehicle, along with two six-year-old children, sustained more serious injuries. They were flown by Maryland State Police helicopters Trooper 3 and Trooper 5 to MedStar Washington Hospital Center and Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., respectively.

In response to the crash, I-70 was closed for over an hour to allow authorities to investigate and clear the scene. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing.
