Judge Dino E. Flores Jr. presided over the case and delivered the sentencing. Yilmaz, who had pleaded not guilty, was found guilty on both charges. For the second-degree assault, Yilmaz was sentenced to 18 months in jail, with all but 15 days suspended. In addition, he was given a 90-day sentence for destruction of property, though this was fully suspended. Yilmaz will serve 15 days in jail starting today, followed by two years of unsupervised probation.
The charges stemmed from an altercation at the intersection of Monocacy Boulevard and East Patrick Street, where a peaceful protest involving Samuel Rosenbloom and local YouTube personality Shaun Porter was taking place. According to witness statements and video footage, Yilmaz confronted the two protesters, leading to a physical altercation in which Rosenbloom was struck, resulting in a concussion.

The property destruction charge relates to Yilmaz allegedly damaging Porter’s cellphone, which was valued at less than $1,000.
An off-duty Frederick County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant witnessed the incident and attempted to intervene, but Yilmaz fled the scene. Investigators later identified Yilmaz using surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
Yilmaz’s originally claimed that he acted in self-defense after Rosenbloom allegedly attempted to seize Yilmaz’s cellphone. Despite this, the court found the evidence sufficient to convict Yilmaz of both charges.
