This initiative, which is accepting applications on a rolling basis, offers grants of up to $50,000 to qualified applicants, with no minimum award amount. Recipients are required to provide a 1:1 match to complete their projects. The program consists of two primary components: Business Rental Assistance and Small Business Improvements, both designed to help new businesses establish a presence in downtown Hagerstown.
Program Details:
- Business Rental Assistance – This option covers up to six months of rental expenses, with payments made directly to landlords. To qualify, businesses must commit to occupying their chosen space for at least one year.
- Small Business Improvements – This component allows applicants to receive matching funds to cover renovation costs, purchase furniture, fixtures, equipment, and invest in business marketing and promotion.
Each business may apply for up to $50,000, and multiple grants can be awarded to separate businesses within the same building if it contains more than one vacant storefront. A single building, however, is limited to three grant-eligible storefronts.
