The fire, which originated in the kitchen, was discovered by one of the occupants. The Hancock Volunteer Fire Company responded promptly to the scene, with 40 firefighters arriving to combat the blaze. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.

Fortunately, no injuries or deaths were reported. However, the fire caused significant damage to the property, with an estimated loss of $75,000 to the structure and $10,000 to its contents. Notably, the residence was not equipped with smoke alarms or a fire alarm and sprinkler system.

Preliminary investigations have determined that the fire was accidental, caused by a grease fire on the stove. The occupants of the home have been displaced as a result of the fire and are currently receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

The Hancock Volunteer Fire Company’s swift response helped to prevent further damage.
