Town of Hancock Reminds Residents to Be Careful What they Flush

HANCOCK, MD News (2/7/2023) – This past year, the town of Hancock invested about $625,000 to rehabilitate their aging wastewater pumping stations. This should keep those stations in good working order for the foreseeable future. However, the town has issued a notice to residents to be careful what they flush.

Hancock residents may be surprised to know that even though they are connected to a public sewer system, they should be careful what you flush. Here are list of no-no’s:

  • Cleaning wipes – even if they are advertised as “flushable” they aren’t!!
  • Dental floss
  • Hair
  • Diapers
  • Hygiene products
  • Cigarette butts
  • Grease or oil
  • Food waste
  • Coffee grounds
  • Cat litter

These items should also never be poured down the drain of the sink, especially grease or oil, as these can cause problems with the plumbing inside your house, as well as the public sewer.
