Little Orleans, MD News (9/3/2024) – A saw mill located at 10663 Orleans Road NE in Little Orleans was significantly damaged by a fire on the night of September 1, 2024. The fire, which was reported at 10:48 PM, caused an estimated $50,000 in damages.

The saw mill, owned by Daniel McCusker, was heavily affected, with $10,000 worth of damage to the structure and an additional $40,000 in lost contents. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The fire was discovered by a passerby, who alerted authorities. The Orleans Volunteer Fire Company responded quickly, with 34 firefighters arriving on the scene. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes of their arrival.

Preliminary reports indicate that the fire originated in an open area between a diesel fuel tank and a diesel engine. However, the exact cause is still under investigation.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the fire to contact the Western Regional Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal at 301-766-3888.
