Grace House Opens Doors to Clients: A New Chapter in Recovery Services

HAGERSTOWN, MD News (9/3/2024) – Grace House, a new residential treatment facility for men struggling with substance use disorder, is now open and accepting clients. While the official ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for September 25, 2024, the facility is already providing much-needed support to individuals seeking to overcome addiction and rebuild their lives.

Grace House’s mission is to empower men to overcome addiction, rediscover their strengths, and transition towards independent living. The facility’s approach is grounded in the belief that recovery is a process sustained by hope, which, in turn, fuels the journey to a better life. The staff at Grace House are committed to fostering resilience and guiding individuals toward a life of purpose and fulfillment beyond addiction.

Nestled in serene, park-like surroundings, Grace House envisions itself as a haven of hope and healing for men battling addiction. The establishment of Grace House is deeply personal for its co-founders, Joyce Brown and her daughter, Hannah. Joyce has dedicated much of her life to helping individuals who have faced significant life challenges, including substance use. Her work has spanned various roles, from mentoring young mothers to managing vocational cases for those previously incarcerated.

Joyce’s commitment to this cause is further underscored by her family’s own experiences with addiction. Her brother, Bob, struggled with substance use from the age of 12 but found sobriety later in life through a court-ordered program in Virginia. Bob’s journey of recovery, which earned him recognition from the Governor of Virginia, inspired Joyce and Hannah to create Grace House. The facility is dedicated to Bob’s memory, honoring his life and the hope he found in recovery.

Grace House is now accepting clients, with eligibility criteria including men aged 18 and older who have a diagnosis of substance use disorder. The facility also accepts individuals with stable, co-occurring mental health conditions. Referrals are welcomed from rehab programs, jails, the criminal justice system, other treatment providers, and self-referrals. Medicaid is accepted as a payment method.

The treatment program at Grace House operates on a three-phase system, with an average length of stay of six months, which can extend up to a year depending on individual needs. Residents are expected to follow a structured schedule, aimed at helping them restore their lives to a state of health, productivity, and self-sufficiency.
