On Wednesday, Deputy State Fire Marshals charged Michael Sean Hafer, 28, following threats he made at the motel, located at 11321 Massey Boulevard. According to investigators, Hafer told other guests that he intended to destroy the motel by using pipe bombs.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the motel at approximately 7:30 a.m. after receiving reports of Hafer’s threats. Due to the severity of the situation, the Bomb Squad was called in to search Hafer’s room.

Throughout the day, investigators conducted a thorough examination. After obtaining the necessary search warrants, they inspected Hafer’s room and a nearby temporary storage unit. The search concluded with no discovery of explosive materials, allowing the guests of the motel’s forty-six occupied rooms to safely return.

Hafer now faces charges of Threat of Mass Violence and two counts of Arson Threat. Following his arrest, he was taken to the Washington County Detention Center and later released on his own recognizance.

Authorities have not disclosed a motive for Hafer’s threats.
