State law mandates that the gaming fund be split equally between the Washington County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association and various local charitable organizations. In line with this requirement, the Fire and Rescue Association received an initial distribution of $524,215.80 in January. Today, an additional $682,927.14 will be disbursed to the association, bringing its annual total to $1,207,142.94.

In May, the Washington County Gaming Commission received 88 applications from 76 charitable organizations, collectively requesting $2,990,534.92. Following a gaming hearing in June and a one-day workshop in July, the Commission managed to partially or fully fund 61 out of the 88 requests. Specifically, 10 applications received full funding, 51 received partial funding, and 27 were denied. Consequently, a total of $1,207,142.95 was allocated to 53 of the 76 charitable organizations that applied.

The Charitable Gaming Program in Washington County is responsible for a variety of regulatory and administrative functions related to gaming. These responsibilities include providing accountability for tip jar sales within the county, issuing wholesale, operator, and temporary licenses for tip jar sales, and administering both state statutes and county rules and regulations. The program also has the authority to assess fines, penalties, and denials, as well as to suspend and revoke licenses when necessary.

Additionally, the program is tasked with maintaining reports from licensees on all tip jar sales and operations, collecting monies, and administering the Washington County Gaming Fund. It provides professional advice and support to the Washington County Gaming Commission and issues licenses for coin-operated amusement and bingo.

Despite the decrease in overall revenue this fiscal year, the Commission has ensured that a significant amount of funding is directed toward organizations that provide essential services to the community.
