The newly acquired ambulances come with several advanced features and improvements aimed at boosting operational efficiency and safety:

  • Enhanced Design: The ambulances sport a new county apparatus color scheme, featuring a distinctive red roof and a white body, complemented by striping that showcases the Division of Emergency Services patch and the Maryland state flag.
  • Advanced Equipment: Each ambulance is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment that adheres to all consensus standards and criteria of the Maryland EMS Voluntary Ambulance Inspection. This ensures that the ambulances are always ready for service and fully compliant with the highest standards.

The acquisition of these ambulances was made possible through funding approved by the Board of County Commissioners Capital Improvement Program (CIP). This funding underscores the county’s commitment to enhancing public safety and ensuring that emergency services are well-equipped to meet the demands of the community.

The new ambulances will be strategically stationed across Washington County to maximize their effectiveness. They will support the volunteer EMS Corporations and the Division of Emergency Services by enabling a swift and efficient response to emergencies.

R. David Hays, Director of Emergency Services, expressed his gratitude for the funding and support received: “We are grateful for the support from the Board of County Commissioners and the CIP funding provided. These new ambulances will significantly enhance our ability to support our volunteer EMS companies and will help serve and protect the residents of Washington County.”

The addition of these reserve ambulances is expected to have a positive impact on the overall emergency response system within the county. By providing additional resources to the volunteer EMS Corporations, the county ensures that there is a robust and reliable backup system in place, which can be crucial during high-demand situations or when primary units are unavailable.

The new ambulances not only improve the immediate readiness and capacity of the emergency services but also reflect the county’s ongoing efforts to invest in public safety infrastructure. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance the resilience and efficiency of emergency services across Washington County.
