The incident occurred on Friday, April 5, 2024, at approximately 11:21 p.m. Officers from the Fourth District responded to a report of an unconscious individual inside an apartment in the 1300 block of Peabody Street, Northwest. Upon arrival, the officers discovered an adult male suffering from stab wounds. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called to the scene, but unfortunately, the individual was pronounced dead after no signs of life were found.

The victim was later identified as 53-year-old Fasil Teklemariam, a resident of Northwest, Washington, DC. Teklemariam’s death marked a significant case for the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch, which launched an intensive investigation to locate and apprehend the suspect responsible for this violent crime.
On Monday, June 17, 2024, members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, in coordination with the Metropolitan Police Department, successfully located and arrested the suspect in Hagerstown, Maryland. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Audrey Miller, was detained without incident. Miller, who has no fixed address, was wanted on a DC Superior Court arrest warrant charging her with First Degree Murder while Armed and Felony Murder.

Authorities are now working through the extradition process to return Miller to Washington, DC, where she will face the charges in court. The cooperation between multiple law enforcement agencies was instrumental in Miller’s apprehension, demonstrating a concerted effort to address violent crime and ensure justice for the victim and his family.
The Metropolitan Police Department has extended its gratitude to the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force for their assistance in locating and arresting Miller. The department also emphasized its commitment to thorough and diligent investigations to hold perpetrators of violent crimes accountable.
The motive behind the stabbing incident remains under investigation.
