Malichi Leech, 19, faced charges in Jefferson County on May 15, including attempted first-degree murder, four counts of wanton endangerment, and conspiracy. These charges stemmed from a shooting on January 28 on MLK Jr. Boulevard in Charles Town, West Virginia.
The arrest followed a request for assistance from the Charles Town Police Department to the U.S. Marshals Mountain State Fugitive Task Force on May 17. Acting promptly, the task force began investigating Leech’s whereabouts and quickly gathered information indicating that he was in Hagerstown, Maryland.

On May 20, Leech was located at a residence on Wayside Drive in Hagerstown. He was taken into custody without incident by the task force, which included members from several law enforcement agencies. Acting U.S. Marshal Terry Moore underscored the importance of collaboration among different agencies, stating, “Our panhandle communities in West Virginia are frequently terrorized by out-of-state violent criminals. The Marshals Service’s partnerships with state and local agencies allow task force members to extend their jurisdiction anywhere in the country, bringing those offenders to justice.”

The successful operation involved the coordinated efforts of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, Charles Town Police Department, Hagerstown Police Department, Maryland State Police, and the United States Marshals Service. The collaborative effort underscores the importance of interagency cooperation in tackling violent crime and ensuring public safety across state lines.
Following his arrest, Leech was booked into the Washington County Detention Center, where he will await extradition back to West Virginia to face the charges against him. The efficient response by the task force and the seamless collaboration between multiple law enforcement agencies highlight the effectiveness of such partnerships in addressing serious criminal activities.
