BALTIMORE, MD News (4/16/2024) – The Unified Command overseeing the response to the Key Bridge incident confirmed the recovery of another victim’s body on April 14, 2024. The identity of the victim has been withheld at the request of the family. The body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and positively identified on April 15, 2024.

Unified Command salvage teams, while conducting operations at the incident site, located what they believed to be one of the missing construction vehicles. Promptly, they notified the Maryland Department of State Police. Subsequently, a joint response involving the Maryland State Police, the FBI, and the Maryland Transportation Authority Police led to the discovery of a deceased victim trapped inside the vehicle.

Authorities from the Maryland State Police, accompanied by an FBI Victim Specialist and linguist, representatives from the Baltimore County Mobile Crisis Team, and officials from the Governor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, met with and informed family members earlier today.

Colonel Roland L. Butler, Jr., Superintendent of the Maryland Department of State Police, expressed condolences, stating, “As we mourn the lives lost and continue the recovery operation, we recognize each missing individual is someone’s beloved friend or family member.” He affirmed the commitment of law enforcement partners to utilize their training and resources fully in the ongoing efforts.

The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge occurred in the early hours of March 26, 2024, at 1:28 a.m. The collapse followed a collision with one of its piers by the container ship Dali. Two individuals were rescued from the river, with one sustaining critical injuries and being transported to a hospital. Six members of a maintenance crew were reported missing in the aftermath, with four bodies recovered and two presumed deceased.


The incident resulted in a significant disruption to shipping activities at the Port of Baltimore. Maryland Governor Wes Moore described it as a “global crisis,” impacting over 8,000 jobs. The closure of the waterway has led to an estimated economic loss of $15 million per day.

Multiple sources have confirmed that the FBI is conducting a criminal investigation into the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The investigation is focused on understanding the circumstances preceding the incident and ensuring compliance with federal laws.
