BOONSBORO, MD News (2/28/2024) – Pathfinder Distillery, nestled in the picturesque countryside of Boonsboro, Maryland, marked a significant milestone on February 22, 2024, with the grand opening of its tasting room. Founded by Natalie, Emory, Nate, and Sully Kraft, the distillery represents the culmination of a journey that began when the Krafts transitioned from life aboard a sailboat to pursuing their dream of crafting distilled spirits on their own farm.

Both veterans, with Natalie having served in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard for six years and Nate in the Navy for a decade, the Krafts have traversed the globe before settling in Pleasant Valley, Maryland. Nate’s upbringing and family history, steeped in Pennsylvania Dutch heritage, influenced the choice of the farm’s name, Pathfinder, reflecting his own moniker’s ties to the scouting tradition.

The distillery’s emblem, featuring a compass rose, pays homage to the family’s extensive travels and adventures at sea, with Nate, Natalie, and Sully having sailed over 3,000 miles post-Navy service. This emblematic choice encapsulates their spirit of exploration and discovery.

Pathfinder Distillery prides itself on its commitment to quality and sustainability. The farm’s signature Bloody Butcher Red Corn serves as the cornerstone for their moonshine and whiskey, with ingredients sourced locally or grown onsite. Embracing environmentally conscious practices, the Krafts employ techniques such as cover cropping and no-till farming to nurture the land and preserve its integrity for future generations. Additionally, the distillery’s waste products find new life as feed for the farm’s beef cattle, completing a cycle of sustainability and resourcefulness.
