Hagerstown, MD News (2/5/2024) – The Washington County Chamber of Commerce unveiled its legislative agenda for 2024, shedding light on key policy areas that hold significance for the local business community. The agenda, released during today’s session, delineates the Chamber’s priorities for the ongoing General Assembly Session, aligning with its strategic plan. The focus encompasses six key areas: Job Growth and Workforce Development/Education, Transportation Funding/Infrastructure Investment, Sound Energy Policies, a Competitive Tax Structure, and curbing Over-Regulation.

Paul Frey, President, and CEO of the Chamber stated, “The individual agenda items are intentionally broad. We drafted this document in response to what’s on the minds of our members, factoring in the current economic environment aggravated by inflation and staffing challenges. We want to be part of a unified and fiscally responsible strategy for dealing with the prevailing economic issues in Washington County and in the state of Maryland.”

The proposed legislation within these broad policy areas will prompt action by the Chamber, potentially issuing statements either supporting or opposing specific legislation, releasing policy statements, or testifying before the General Assembly in Annapolis. Frey emphasized, “The policymakers who pass laws affecting our businesses need to hear from us, and this legislative agenda is part of the process to make that happen.”
