North Hagerstown High School Addresses Incident of Weapon Discovery with Swift Action
HAGERSTOWN, MD News (1/25/2024) – North Hagerstown High School faced a serious situation today as a loaded handgun was discovered in a student’s backpack during a private search. The school administration, with the assistance of the School Resource Officer, promptly secured the weapon with the cooperation of local law enforcement, ensuring a safe resolution without incident.

The discovery unfolded following reports received by school staff, leading administrators and School Safety and Security Assistants to conduct a thorough search of the student’s backpack. Upon finding the firearm, the School Resource Officer took immediate action, securing the weapon and removing the student from the premises. The student will not be returning to school during the ongoing investigation.
Principal Dr. Mike Chilcutt expressed gratitude for the vigilance of students and staff who came forward, emphasizing the school’s unwavering stance against unlawful activity.
