Hagerstown, MD News (1/21/2024) – A.C.T. (Authentic Community Theatre) is set to present the Area Premiere of Green Day’s acclaimed musical, “American Idiot,” at The Maryland Theatre on March 22nd and 23rd, 2024.

“American Idiot,” a two-time Tony Award-winning musical, is based on Green Day’s Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum album. The high-energy show pushes the boundaries of the American musical genre, incorporating every song from Green Day’s album, “American Idiot,” and additional tracks from their follow-up release, “21st Century Breakdown.”

The cast includes Tony Award-winning actor Wilson Jermaine Heredia, renowned for his portrayal of Angel Dumott Schunard in the Broadway musical “Rent.”

The storyline revolves around Johnny, Tunny, and Will as they grapple with finding meaning in a post-9/11 world. The trio departs their hometown in pursuit of excitement in the city, but their paths diverge swiftly – Tunny enlists in the armed forces, Will returns home to familial responsibilities, and Johnny faces the complexities of a seductive love interest and a risky new friendship. “American Idiot” is characterized as an energy-fueled rock opera, relying on Green Day’s album lyrics to propel the narrative with minimal dialogue.

A noteworthy point is the show’s Parental Advisory, cautioning that it contains mature themes and is not recommended for children under 18.

Ticket pricing ranges from $25 to $32, varying by seating section. Interested patrons can purchase tickets starting January 25th at noon through the official website: The Maryland Theatre.
