HAGERSTOWN, MD News (9/22/2023) – The 2024 election season has started in Washington County, Maryland. While at the time of writing this article he is not yet listed on the State of Maryland’s local candidate list, Anthony Williams, a passionate advocate for learning and a prominent figure in the field, has officially declared his candidacy for a seat on the Washington County Board of Education in the upcoming 2024 election cycle.

With a career spanning over two decades in education, Anthony Williams has garnered a reputation as a dedicated and innovative educator. His journey in the realm of teaching began in 1998 when he started as a substitute teacher for Washington County Public Schools. Over the years, he has enriched his experience by teaching in various educational settings, including Washington County, Frederick County, Montgomery County, and the District of Columbia. Moreover, Anthony’s commitment to education extended beyond borders as he dedicated four years to teaching abroad in three different countries.
Currently, as the founder of Beacon House Inc., Anthony Williams is at the forefront of promoting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education. His non-profit organization seeks to enhance students’ abilities to learn through innovative and non-traditional teaching methods. This commitment to educational innovation positions Williams as a candidate who can bring fresh perspectives to the Washington County Board of Education.
In addition to his educational endeavors, Anthony Williams is an active member of the Sunrise Rotary Club in Hagerstown, where he continues to foster community engagement and outreach. He is also an active member of the Washington County NAACP.
Anthony Williams is no stranger to the local educational landscape. He is an alumnus of Smithsburg High School and holds degrees from Hagerstown Community College and Shepherd University. His deep roots in the community and extensive educational background equip him with the knowledge and passion needed to drive positive change in Washington County’s educational system.
This is not Williams’ first foray into electoral politics. In the 2022 election cycle, he ran for a seat on the Board of Education. Despite facing stiff competition with six candidates in the running, Williams secured the fourth highest number of votes. However, with only three seats available in that election, he narrowly missed a spot on the board.
The Washington County Board of Education is composed of seven elected members, each serving four-year terms. With four seats set to be up for election in the 2024 cycle, Anthony Williams’s candidacy presents an opportunity for voters to rally behind an experienced educator who is deeply committed to improving the quality of education in Washington County. The current incumbents, Melissa Williams, Stan Stouffer, Pieter Bickford, and Dr. April Zentmeyer, have not yet filed for the 2024 election cycle or contacted Radio Free Hub City with their intentions to do so.
As Anthony Williams embarks on his campaign journey for the 2024 election, residents and stakeholders in Washington County’s educational system will be closely watching.
