Teriq Morris opened the Hagerstown Gridiron Championship with a kickoff return touchdown for the second straight season. The Rebel senior weaved his way to a 90-yard kickoff return touchdown and also added a fourth quarter score on a 47-yard run to lead South Hagerstown to a 28-0 victory over rival North Hagerstown on Friday.
South junior quarterback Lance Ford had an 81-yard TD run and senior Sean Eisenhower rambled in from one yard out to give the Rebels a quick 21-0 first quarter lead and they never looked back.
The Rebel defense intercepted North quarterback Luke Kercheval four times and held the Hubs offense in check all night.
North only threatened to score on one drive all night. South stopped the Hubs inside the 10-yard line on four straight plays with under two-minutes left in the first half.
Ford led the Rebels offense with 94 yards on the ground and another 87 yards through the air, while freshman Josiah Davis had 65 rushing yards.
Hubs junior backup tailback Van Spence rushed for 69 yards and starter Zach Moore added 66 rushing yards before leaving the game with an ankle injury.
South Hagerstown now takes a 34-31 lead in the all-time series and have won nine of the last ten games vs. the Hubs.
Both teams finish the regular season with a (3-6) record and await the announcement on Sunday of their next opponent for next weekend’s first round of the MPSSAA football playoffs.
