Steam & Craft Show Returns to Smithsburg

SMITHSBURG, MD News (9/15/2022) – After two years being held outside of Smithsburg, the Steam Engine and Craft Show will return to the Smithsburg Carnival Grounds on September 24th and 25th, including the tractor parade through Smithsburg.

Governor Hogan Announces More Than $13 Million in Highway Safety Grants

ANNAPOLIS, MD News (9/12/2022) – Governor Larry Hogan today announced more than $13 million in federal and state highway safety grants as part of a statewide focus to prevent motor vehicle crashes and eliminate roadway fatalities. The state funds were disbursed at the start of the fiscal year, and the federal funds will be distributed October 1 by the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s (MDOT MVA) Highway Safety Office. In all, more than 90 organizations, agencies, and programs will receive funds.

Washington County Accepting Nominations for Farm of the Year

HAGERSTOWN, MD News (9/14/2022) – The Washington County Department of Business Development announces nominations by the public are now being accepted for the 2022-2023 Washington County Farm of the Year.

Designed to recognize and honor the rich agricultural heritage embedded in Washington County, the Farm of the Year Award application is open to all farms located primarily in the County on five or more acres of land. Applications must be submitted by September 23, 2022.

County to Discuss Acquiring Additional Land at Airport, Demolish Old Fire Station

HAGERSTOWN, MD News (9/12/2022) – On Tuesday, September 13, the Washington County Commissioners will discuss and vote on a proposal to approve land acquisition for FAA Runway Visibility Zone (RVZ) and Runway Object Free Area (ROFA) compliance by exercise of the power of eminent domain. The sellers are anticipated to consent to the acquisition, and a public hearing on the proposed acquisition was held on August 30, 2022.
