Maryland State Police are leading an investigation into the death of an inmate at the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown. The inmate was found with apparent stab wounds and was pronounced deceased by emergency medical services personnel. The identity of the deceased is being withheld as officials work to notify next of kin.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was alerted to the incident around 10 p.m. on September 21 by investigators from the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigative Unit. Preliminary findings suggest the inmate was discovered suffering from injuries consistent with a stabbing on the tier within his housing unit. Investigators and crime scene technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division were dispatched to the facility to collect evidence and process the scene.
