Hagerstown Residents Invited to City Council Work Session on August 4th

The Mayor and City Council of Hagerstown, Maryland, will convene for a work session on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, beginning at approximately 2:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend this session, which will be held in the Council Chamber on the second floor of City Hall, located at 1 East Franklin Street. This meeting will cover a range of community-focused topics designed to enhance the city’s vision of being an inclusive, business-friendly, and sustainable community with clean, safe, and vibrant neighborhoods.

The work session agenda includes several key initiatives. At 2:00 p.m., Keith Fanjoy of the Bester Community of Hope will present on the “ENOUGH Community Parks Initiative.” This will be followed by an update at 2:30 p.m. from Liz Schatto, Executive Director of the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area, likely detailing plans and progress for this significant regional attraction. A brief update on the “Sister City: Hagerstown Indiana” relationship will be provided by Mike Keifer at 2:40 p.m. Following that, Brittany Arizmendi, Director of Community Engagement, will discuss the “Public Square Christmas Tree” at 2:50 p.m., signaling preparations for upcoming holiday events.

Later in the session, at 3:00 p.m., Margi Joe, Community Development Manager, and Letizia Turner, Planning & Outreach Coordinator, will present on Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Public Service Subrecipient Agreements. These agreements are crucial for the allocation of federal funds to local programs. Stephen Bockmiller, Deputy Director for Planning and Zoning Administration, is scheduled to address “2026 Land Management Code Amendment Proposals ZT-2026-02” at 3:10 p.m., which may impact local development and land use regulations. The work session will conclude with comments from the City Administrator and the Mayor & Council at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Following the work session, an executive session is scheduled to commence at approximately 3:45 p.m. in the same location. The meeting is expected to adjourn around 4:15 p.m. All discussions during the work session are televised and recorded for public access.
