A significant Independence Day celebration is scheduled for Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center. Running from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., this all-day event will feature a variety of entertainment options, including exhibits, food vendors, a drone show, and a concluding fireworks display. Attendees are encouraged to visit the Downtown Hagerstown Main Street booth for giveaways and information on future city activities. For those needing transportation, the Washington County Commuter will provide services connecting downtown Hagerstown to the event venue.
A unique historical moment will occur on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at City Park. At 11:00 a.m., near the rose garden adjacent to the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, Hagerstown will open its 1976 Bicentennial Time Capsule. This capsule, sealed 50 years ago during America’s Bicentennial celebration, contains letters, memorabilia, and personal reflections from residents of that era, offering a glimpse into the community’s past.
The America 250th celebration will conclude on Thursday, July 9, 2026, with a Stars & Stripes Block Party held in Public Square from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This free community event aims to bring neighbors, families, and visitors together for a patriotic celebration in the heart of downtown. The block party will feature live music by the Longmeadow Mining Company, presentations from historical and cultural organizations, and family-friendly activities. The event will also acknowledge the earlier opening of the 1976 Time Capsule in partnership with the Antietam Exchange Club of Hagerstown, further emphasizing Hagerstown’s role in the broader American narrative.
