Baltimore Man Sentenced for Cocaine Distribution in West Virginia

A Baltimore, Maryland resident has received a prison sentence for his involvement in cocaine trafficking in Berkeley County, West Virginia, as announced by U.S. Attorney Matthew L. Harvey. Terrell Antonio Henderson, 35, was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison. The case highlights ongoing efforts to combat drug distribution networks that extend into West Virginia from other regions.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia, Henderson was part of a group responsible for transporting cocaine from Baltimore to the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. During an investigation into this drug operation, law enforcement officers observed a suspected drug transaction near Henderson’s vehicle in a Spring Mills, West Virginia parking lot. A subsequent lawful search of his vehicle resulted in the seizure of $1,200 in cash, which was allegedly used to purchase drugs, as well as cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

The prosecution of this case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher. The investigation involved the collaborative efforts of the Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force, an initiative funded by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program, and the Martinsburg Police Department. This operation is part of a broader national effort known as Operation Take Back America, which aims to dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, reduce violent crime, and address illegal immigration. Fentanyl, a drug with extreme lethality, has been designated a weapon of mass destruction by President Donald Trump due to the significant threat it poses to public safety, even in minimal quantities. U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh presided over the sentencing.

This sentencing serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by drug trafficking in the region and the commitment of federal and local law enforcement to prosecuting those involved. The case underscores the connection between drug sources in other states and the impact on communities in West Virginia. Residents in the Eastern Panhandle and surrounding areas may see continued law enforcement activity aimed at disrupting drug supply chains.
